IALA Region A Buoyage Reference
A visual reference for the IALA Region A buoyage system used in UK and European waters. The page covers lateral marks (port and starboard hand), cardinal marks (north, east, south and west), isolated danger marks, safe water marks and special marks. For each mark you'll find the colour scheme, top mark, light characteristic, and how to pass it.
Use the buoyage reference alongside the chart planner when planning a passage: drop waypoints around hazards using the cardinal marks that protect them, and keep port/starboard buoys on the expected side as you enter a buoyed channel from seaward.
